Amerika

As this is the 400th post on this blog and as it’s the anniversary of Pearl Harbour, I thought I’d show you a little bit of a long term project I’m doing about the Cold War. The legendary broadcaster Ed Murrow, speaking at the end of the Second World War, made a prescient remark that could have equally applied to the USA at the end of the Cold War:

“Seldom if ever has a war ended leaving the victors with such a a sense of uncertainty and fear, with a realisation that the future is obscure and that survival is not assured”.

This part of the project is deals with American archetypes stereotypes and how in uncertain times people seek reassurances in the familiar and how nothing is as strange as the normal seen through unfamiliar eyes.
