Illustrated essays looking at how the Union Jack and Stars and Stripes flags have been used by artists and how flags are used by governments to cover up all sorts of things. It was the start of my interest in and use of flags, as seen in my 2019 exhibition 'Flag of Convenience' at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery.
One of the chapters is about Joe Rosenthal's famous war time photograph of the Iwo Jima flag raising and how the image was been appropriated for use in 'the war on terror'. This was led to a 35-minute video documentary with Cat Gregory 'The Trouble With Icons'.
